The University of Houston has closed the Beta Nu Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity after an investigation found hazing and other violations of the fraternity's rules. The chapter voluntarily surrendered its charter last Friday, following findings of misconduct by the fraternity’s national office, according to Click2Houston.
Reports of physical abuse, forced consumption, and public humiliation prompted an investigation after a non-student was hospitalized on November 3 in an incident suspected to be hazing by the fraternity. The fraternity’s national office placed the chapter on interim suspension on November 6, stating, “This action reflects our commitment to upholding the Fraternity’s values and expectations while prioritizing the well-being of our members,” as reported by KHOU.
The University of Houston is also investigating the incidents with local law enforcement and providing support to affected students through counseling, academic aid, and housing resources. Officials said, “The events investigated are deeply disturbing and represent a clear violation of our community standards. While only a small group of students are alleged to be involved, the University does not tolerate hazing in any form.”
