In Upper Arlington, a community-driven initiative is stepping up to fill the void for families who find themselves in the precarious position of having a sudden gap in their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this November. A collaborative effort between local organizations has been formed, underpinned by a grant from the Upper Arlington Community Foundation’s Good Neighbor Fund, aiming to distribute $100 grocery store gift cards to SNAP-enrolled residents facing this temporary shortfall.

The giveaway is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, during a Grocery Store Gift Card Pick Up event at the Municipal Services Center, and the support is being provided on a first-come, first-served basis—priority is given to the early birds, the prompt ones, the quick-of-step or click who pre-register by Wednesday, November 5. Given the resources currently available, 150 residents will feel the immediate impact of this relief effort, but the organizers stand ready to expand the program should further donations line the coffers of the Good Neighbor Fund, promising more gift cards and more pickup days.

Upper Arlington officials urge residents who rely on SNAP benefits to act swiftly and register through an online form, according to information from the City of Upper Arlington's announcement. On the day of the event, from 2 pm to 6 pm, registered residents are to bring a proof of their 2025 SNAP benefit Notice of Action and a proof of residency, be it an ID card or a utility bill, to the Municipal Services Center, at 3600 Tremont Road, to claim their much-needed grocery store gift card.
