The streets of Washington D.C. will be echoing with the footsteps of honored servicemembers past and present during the National Veterans Parade tomorrow. As we pay tribute to those who have donned the uniform for our nation, the Metropolitan Police Department warns of significant street closures and parking restrictions throughout the day. According to an advisory released by MPDC, an array of streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate parade assembly, including stretches along Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue.
Commuters should brace for an interruption in their usual routines, as thoroughfares like 4th Street, from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW, and 7th Street, from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW, will be altogether closed to vehicle traffic. The MPDC advisory, found on their official website, indicates closures will be in effect from around 5:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to ensure public safety for the parade assembly. The public is encouraged to plan alternative travel routes well in advance to avoid delays.
In an effort to manage the disbanding of the parade as efficiently as possible, additional areas will be marked as no-go for parking from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This includes streets such as Virginia Avenue, from Constitution Avenue to 23rd Street, NW, and 19th Street, from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW. For those attending the event or trying to navigate around it, being aware of these restrictions ahead of time is key to a hassle-free day.
The heart of the parade route itself will see closures extend from Constitution Avenue at 15th Street to 23rd Street, NW, effective from approximately 10:00 a.m. until the parade concludes at 5:00 p.m. To prevent any undue chaos, inbound traffic on I-395, including the 14th Street Bridge, will be directed eastbound on the I-395 SW Freeway, as outlined by the MPDC.
