A 34-year-old man from Waterford, Michigan, has been arrested and charged with making death threats against the Oakland County Republican Party and its youth chair. Ryan Lewis Vallance was identified by Bloomfield Township Police and FBI agents as the individual behind a Facebook profile that sent threatening messages stating intentions to "shoot up" the GOP headquarters and employ "Molotov cocktails for MAGA," according to ClickOnDetroit.
Vallance is now facing a charge for making a false report or threats of terrorism, a potential 20-year felony. Officials arrested Vallance last Saturday, managing to locate him in a vehicle close to his residence. Upon arrest, the accused reportedly admitted to his actions, which he claimed were fueled by his disdain for President Donald Trump and the GOP, according to the report initially released by FOX 2 Detroit.
The threats were not only aimed at the political organization but also targeted Krish Mathrani, the 19-year-old Michigan GOP Youth Chair. Vallance specifically threatened to "put a bullet" in Mathrani's skull, and made additional threats against anyone working at the office, FOX 2 Detroit reported. In response to the arrest, Mathrani issued a statement highlighting the unwavering stance of the party against such threats, saying, "Threats and intimidation will never force me or any member of our team to back down from fighting for what we believe in."
Following the arraignment, a $1,000,000 no 10% cash bond was set for Vallance, who is now lodged in the Oakland County Jail pending his next court hearing. This incident has further stoked the concerns of local Republican leaders like Oakland County GOP Senior Advisor Brian Szmytke, who, in light of the recent assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk, pointed to "a massive increase in threatening communications" targeting the party and its affiliates. "We are deeply grateful for the strong partnership and ongoing collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies," Szmytke stated as part of his remarks provided to FOX 2 Detroit, which confirms the dedicated efforts to curb and address political violence.
