
A traffic stop in Detroit turned violent on Tuesday when a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy fired at a suspect who tried to ram a squad car. The incident near Woodward Avenue and Arizona Street occurred during a narcotics investigation. The suspect smoked what appeared to be crack cocaine and then tried to flee, leading to the shots, according to CBS News.
Authorities were monitoring a potential drug house on Arizona Street and were following a red truck driven by a 61-year-old man wanted for drug violations, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. When the man noticed the officers, he tried to drive away, leading to a confrontation.
No one was hurt when shots were fired, with reports saying one to three rounds were discharged, as per WXYZ. Officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle, took him into custody, and gave him a medical evaluation after using a taser. Sheriff Raphael Washington said, "Everybody's safe, and we'll move further with the investigation," as mentioned by CBS News. Detroit Police are investigating, and the 61-year-old suspect’s identity is being withheld until charges and arraignment.
