During a recent City Council meeting on November 4th, Mayor Kenneth L. Wright declared November as Caregivers Month in Westerville, a time to honor those who dedicate their days and nights to caring for loved ones. This announcement from the City Government of Westerville's social media highlighted not just the proclamation but also the acceptance of the commendation by the family of a dedicated community servant—Dr. Larry DeVese, a respected dentist and an engaged member of the city's civic life who has passed away.
The proclamation was received by Dr. Larry DeVese's family, comprising Dr. Cynthia DeVese and their children, who cared for him during his illness. "We don’t care for our loved ones, because it’s a job. We care for them because we love them and there’s nothing else that we would do but take care of them and love them," Dr. Cynthia DeVese reflected, honoring the sentiment at the heart of caregiving, according to a Facebook post by the City Government of Westerville.
In continuation of Dr. Larry DeVese's service to the community, his family has established a college scholarship in his name to foster education and perpetuate his legacy. Mayor Wright, speaking on this act of remembrance, encouraged the residents of Westerville to recognize the selflessness of family caregivers across the community.
The City Government of Westerville also invites the public to engage with local government proceedings, advising that the full remarks from the meeting, and indeed the entire meeting itself, can be viewed online at Westerville.org/Council. Additionally, the next City Council meeting is scheduled for November 18—information on attendance and live streaming options is available for those who wish to be present virtually or in person, at Westerville.TV, as per a statement from the municipal authorities.
