Michigan State Police are investigating a Thanksgiving Day crash in Macomb County that killed a 5-year-old girl and left three people in critical condition. The crash happened around 5:20 p.m. on Van Dyke Avenue in Bruce Township, when a southbound 2011 Chevrolet Impala crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2013 Chevy Impala head-on. The driver of the 2011 Impala, who is the father of the two children in that vehicle, is among the injured, according to ClickOnDetroit.

FOX 2 Detroit says the two children in the at-fault vehicle were not properly restrained, and only one car seat was found in the car. The 18-year-old woman driving the other Impala, who was following her boyfriend at the time, suffered life-threatening injuries. Her current condition is not yet known.

Investigators are reviewing the crash involving a 2011 Impala, and The Detroit News reports that there was no evidence the driver braked before the impact. A report will be sent to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office once medical examiner findings, lab results, and interviews are finished. Michigan has recorded 930 road fatalities so far this year, slightly fewer than last year. State police said, "Troopers are waiting on medical examiner reports, lab results, and further interviews before submitting an investigative report to the prosecutor's office."
