The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about 19 imported cookware items, mostly from India, made of aluminum, aluminum alloys, or brass, that may contain lead. Tests by the FDA and state agencies show these products could be unsafe. Consumers are advised to throw them away and not donate or reuse them, according to CBS News.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that lead is dangerous at any level. Exposure can cause problems like stomach pain, memory loss, and long-term health issues. Children and women who can become pregnant are especially at risk, as lead can affect brain development, growth, and behavior. Breastfeeding mothers may also be affected. Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed should contact their healthcare provider.

Certain cookware from India may contain lead and should be discarded. Affected items include pots, pans, and specialty utensils like kadais and degdas, including the Sonex aluminum pot, IKM aluminum saucepan, and brass topes, as reported by Click2Houston. These products were distributed by companies such as Lotus Mom and Shata Traders, and made by JSM Foods and Kraftwares. Contaminated cookware has been found in California, Illinois, New York, and Washington, D.C. Retailers and distributors are asked to check the safety of their products. The current list includes 19 products and may be updated as the investigation continues.
