The holiday spirit is taking on a special form in Aurora, Colorado, this year as the local police department continues a heartfelt tradition. The Aurora Police Department is reaching out to the community, hoping to gather donations for those who are often overlooked during the festive season. A recent social media post from the Aurora Police Department announced their annual mission to deliver wrapped gifts and a bit of holiday cheer to the elderly and at-risk adult residents at Frontier Valley.
For the eighth consecutive year, the APD has put out a call for sponsors to help support around 110 residents of one of the nation's largest Medicaid-funded facilities. According to the Aurora Police Department, "Many residents live with limited resources, and a small act of kindness goes a long way." Gifts should meet a suggested minimum spend of $30 but should not exceed $55, ensuring that all residents receive gifts of roughly equal value.
An outpouring of community support is expected as APD staff lead the drive, encouraging locals to join them in this act of generosity. The delivered gifts and potential holiday visits are meant to ensure "no one at Frontier Valley feels forgotten this season." Interested donors can contribute by providing wrapped gifts, gift cards to major retailers such as Kroger, Walmart, and Target, or through cash contributions that will be pooled for additional residents.
The designated day for gift drop-offs and the holiday event is slated for December 23 between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. at the Aurora Police Department - District 2 office, located at 6 Abilene St. Donors who are unable to make the delivery in person can also drop off their gifts a few days earlier. Moreover, there is an urgency to this call-to-action, with deadlines for gift card donations set on December 15 and for wrapped gifts on December 19.
