Over a hundred Baltimore County police officers teamed up with children in a festive event to brighten the holiday season. According to NottinghamMD, the 24th annual Shop with a Cop was held last Saturday morning, where police officers and children set out on a shopping spree at the Walmart in Cockeysville, each child armed with $100 provided by the Optimist Club of Baltimore County for gift-buying.
As reported by Fox Baltimore, the Police and Community Relations Council in Cockeysville and various Optimist Clubs across Baltimore County came together to provide the funds for the gifts. In support of the event, community partners such as the Maryland State Police, Baltimore County Fire Department, and others joined in, guiding children through the aisles, their hearts clinging to the spirit of the season.
Both events extended beyond shopping. NottinghamMD highlighted the contributions of Arrow Child and Family Ministries, offering a hot cocoa station, participant t-shirts, and essential gift-wrapping supplies. The hot cocoa brewed by Arrow Child and Family Ministries added a touch of warmth, defying the cold. Fox Baltimore added that the holiday ambiance was enriched by the tunes of the Dulaney High School marching band, while Mission BBQ provided breakfast to kick start the day.
Gifts were not the only surprise, with "Combos for Kids" donating bicycles that were raffled off to children, reported Fox Baltimore. Children, their faces beaming with anticipation, waited as the raffle numbers were called, wondering if they would be the ones to take home a new bike. Shop with a Cop isn't just about the gifts; it's a symbol of community bonds.
