In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Darius Bond, a 19-year-old from Baltimore, has been handed a significant prison sentence for his involvement in a deadly hit-and-run incident. According to Fox Baltimore, Bond was driving a stolen car on August 20, 2024, when he struck and killed motorist Terry Crowl in Carroll County. The vehicle, part of a wider car theft ring, had been previously stolen in Baltimore City.
As the State’s Attorney's office for Carroll County details, after losing control of the vehicle and careening into oncoming traffic, striking Crowl's motorcycle, Bond, accompanied by another occupant, confronted the lifeless body of Crowl before fleeing the scene. WMAR-2 News reported that Bond then participated in seizing a van from a local business, attempting to make his escape back to Baltimore City.
The van, later identified by a license plate reader, was found by law enforcement, and with the assistance of surveillance video and DNA evidence, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was able to ascertain Bond's role as the driver in the fatal incident. Although Bond, who did not hold a driver's license, and the passenger were arrested on separate charges in Baltimore City, it was Bond's own confession, as per the Carroll County detective's interrogation, which solidified his culpability in the hit-and-run.
Adding to the seriousness of the crime, less than one month after the fatal crash, Bond faced charges for carrying a loaded stolen handgun, as reported by WMAR-2 News. His sentence, handed down yesterday, amounts to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of Hit and Run Causing Death and Theft Under $100,000.
