A tragic incident at Baytown's Sterling High School resulted in the death of student Andrew Meismer during a science class stabbing. The suspect, 18-year-old classmate Aundre Matthews, has been charged with murder and is held at Baytown Jail, while students are demanding accountability from Goose Creek CISD.
Students protested the handling of the incident, expressing grief and frustration over the district's response. "They cleaned up the blood and then afterwards, they basically told everyone to go back to class as if nothing happened," said student Sage Noland, raising concerns about school safety and transparency, according to KHOU.
ABC13 reported that students said the suspect had a history of violent incidents. Former Sterling High School student Braxton Roux said, "The district keeps letting kids back into classrooms who are clearly dangerous." Goose Creek CISD said they are supporting students and families and have deployed a crisis response team. The district also cited privacy and legal reasons for limited information sharing. Students said they will continue protests to raise concerns about campus safety and the district’s response.
