In Baytown, 18-year-old Sterling High School student Aundre Matthews has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old classmate Andrew Meismer over a $21 THC vape pen. The incident happened on Wednesday at Ross S. Sterling High School, where Matthews allegedly stabbed Meismer in the neck with scissors. A Harris County judge set Matthews’ bond at $3 million. His attorney, Gianpaolo Macerola, had requested $500,000, noting that information about Matthews’ parents, school discipline, and mental health is still unknown, according to Click2Houston.
The altercation began when Matthews confronted Meismer over a missing vape pen, leading to a violent incident now under legal review. Outside the courtroom, Macerola emphasized the need to examine the evidence, saying, "I need to see that surveillance video. I need to see what happened in terms of all the claims that were read in that probable cause affidavit," as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
The event has sparked student-led protests at the high school for a second day, reflecting the community's demand for answers. Matthews’ next court date is set for early January, while the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has chosen not to comment on the case.
