
The streets of Bellevue were jarred by gunfire on Friday, as Bellevue Police attended to a call at the Bellevue Transit Center which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The Bellevue Police Department, through a social media post, confirmed that the incident took place at approximately 12:24 p.m. at 10850 NE 6th Street.
In the swiftly unfolding events the Bellevue officer and the involved suspect were both wounded, they were promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment, this is following the shootout. As stipulated by state law and existing agreements, the King County Independent Force Investigation Team (KC-IFIT) has taken over the case to ensure an impartial assessment of the facts and circumstances surrounding this violent exchange; an independent investigation will be spearheaded by KC-IFIT.
With the scant information available, the motive behind the incident or the sequence of events leading up to the exchange of gunfire remain under wraps; details are expected to be sparse as the independent investigation undertakes its work.
Bellevue PD, meanwhile, has deferred all further inquiries to KC-IFIT, trusting the process of external oversight that aims to maintain transparency and accountability when such confrontations involve law enforcement KC-IFIT has not yet released any statements regarding the condition of the officer or the suspect nor provided insight into the timeline for their investigation.
