A high-speed chase in west Bexar County concluded with a crash and the apprehension of a 29-year-old man, alongside the seizure of a considerable haul of methamphetamine and firearms. As reported by KSAT, Mikal Mireles was arrested after Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) deputies attempted to pull him over during a traffic stop last Friday, December 12, which was linked to an ongoing drug investigation.

Detailed accounts suggest deputies tried to stop Mireles near U.S. Highway 90 and Hunt Lane, but the suspect allegedly chose to flee, leading the deputies on a pursuit. This chase eventually came to an end after Mireles' vehicle collided with another at the State Highway 151 and Hunt Lane intersection. Following the apprehension, deputies discovered approximately eight ounces of meth in Mireles' vehicle, as per the BCSO statement obtained by KSAT.

A subsequent search warrant executed at Mireles' residence in the 5600 block of Butch Canyon unearthed an additional 32 ounces of meth and an arsenal of 17 firearms, four of which were confirmed to be stolen. Mireles faces charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 200 grams. KENS 5 reported that additional firearm-related charges are pending against Mireles due to the recovery of the stolen weapons.

After being booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, Mireles was able to secure release on a bond set at $55,000, jail records show. The weapons cache included ghost guns, Glock switches, a rifle suppressor, and items indicative of narcotics distribution, such as digital scales and packaging materials. This elaborate inventory of seized items signals a larger, more profound issue within our communities where the intertwining of drug trafficking and illegal firearms perpetuates a cycle of violence and crime, a reality law enforcement officials continue to grapple with.
