The Wave of Harmony Foundation is hosting a free Kamaʻāina Holiday Spectacular at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku on Dec. 22, featuring Broadway veterans Q. Smith and Lawrence Stallings. Photos with Santa start at 6:15 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The program will include Broadway medleys, gospel, and holiday R&B in a family-friendly show. Admission is free, with attendees encouraged to reserve seats in advance.
Seat reservations were managed through the Maui OnStage ticket page, which now shows the show as sold out and is accepting names for a wait list. The listing also details the evening’s schedule and encourages patrons to contribute to a Giving Tree supporting local arts programs.
Who’s on the bill
The evening features island performers alongside touring artists: Q. Smith and Lawrence Stallings share the stage with Kamaka Kukona, Leighanna Locke, Casey Hughes, Tessa Chin, and Paul Jackel. Vania Jerome serves as music director, with Andrew Wu on violin, Ashton Yarbrough on bass, and Perry Gragas on drums, according to Maui News.
Smith told Maui News that the couple chose a theme of love for their set, saying their portion of the show celebrates their love for Hawaiʻi, each other, and their ʻohana. Stallings highlighted roles in productions such as Hair and The Book of Mormon, along with his one-man Sam Cooke show, as transformative, and noted that their performance will include a Broadway medley plus Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas.
Who’s behind it
The concert is hosted by Wave of Harmony founder Barry Kawakami and is part of the foundation’s efforts to support performing-arts education on Maui. Event materials describe the Spectacular as a gift from the community for the community and provide information on how attendees can support local programs. More details are available from the Wave of Harmony Foundation.
