A routine larceny investigation by the Police Department led to a significant seizure of a firearm from a convicted felon this week. According to a social media post from the Burien Police Department, officers were dispatched to a reported theft at the local Walgreens in Burien. The suspect had fled the scene in a U-Haul before officers arrived, prompting an immediate search.
As luck would have it, a Burien Deputy happened upon a U-Haul matching the description previously relayed. After conducting an area check, not just the vehicle but also the male suspect described by a witness was located. Having the witness confirm the identity of the man detained—it was indeed the suspect from the Walgreens larceny. Upon questioning, the suspect preemptively disclosed possession of a firearm, declaring, "Yes, in my pocket."
The admission from the suspect was straightforward, acknowledging his unlawful possession of the weapon, among other charges. Being a convicted felon, the man was in clear violation of laws prohibiting him from firearm possession. The firearm in his pocket, though not stolen, was duly seized by the authorities. "The suspect admitted to all charges," stated the Burien Police Department, reflecting a rare instance of unresisting compliance in the face of legal scrutiny.
Following the seizure, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail on multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, theft, and drug possession. Authorities say additional drugs were found in his possession, further compounding the case against him. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to remove illegal firearms from the streets and prevent individuals with prior offenses from accessing them.
