Residents of Keller can feel a little safer tonight with the news that Charlie Skaggs has taken the helm as the new chief of Keller Fire-Rescue. The promotion, officially announced on the Keller Public Safety Facebook page, comes after Skaggs has already spent several months leading the department on an interim basis since June.
With over a quarter-century in the fire service, Skaggs' tenure includes a significant stint of 23 years with the City of McKinney, where his rise through the ranks culminated in the role of battalion chief, and over ten years directing their EMS programs. As interim chief of Keller Fire-Rescue, Skaggs has been credited with leading policy improvements that have bolstered fire prevention, operational readiness, and the quality of EMS services across Keller. It is a testament to his experience and the community's trust in his capabilities.
The decision reflects the city’s confidence in his ability to innovate and collaborate. “Chief Skaggs has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his time at the helm,” City Manager Aaron Rector was quoted as saying on the Keller Public Safety's Facebook post. Rector highlighted Skaggs' creative and collaborative approach to public safety and conveyed his enthusiasm for the department's future under Skaggs' guidance.
