Citi Bike users in New York will see an increase in costs beginning in 2026. Annual membership fees will rise to $239 starting January 28, 2026, while employer-subsidized memberships will be adjusted to $191 per year. For riders without an annual membership, overage fees will increase to 41 cents per minute for both Ebike and classic rides, according to an announcement reported by PIX11.

Not all changes will result in higher costs for riders. Reduced-fare bike share members will maintain their $5 monthly memberships, with no unlock fees and unlimited 45-minute rides on classic bikes. AMNY reports that some Citi Bike users say they are willing to pay the increased fees for the convenience the system provides in New York’s traffic. Other riders, however, have raised concerns about bike maintenance and safety on city streets.

Ron Wechsler, a local bicyclist, told AMNY that he appreciates Citi Bike as a convenient way to get around, while noting a growing preference for e-bikes over traditional models. Other users, including Queens resident Brian McDermott, said that the upcoming fee increases are unlikely to affect their use of the service, despite having experienced several close calls with vehicles.

Some former members, such as Frankie Paz, have stopped using the service, citing concerns about cleanliness and rising costs. Paz said to AMNY that finding functioning e-bikes can be difficult and criticized the recent fee increases, noting Lyft’s involvement in congestion pricing. These perspectives underscore the ongoing balance between affordability and service quality that may influence user decisions as Citi Bike implements its changes.
