Cleveland State University (CSU) is witnessing a significant boost in philanthropy, with donors contributing over $6.4 million in support of the institution's commitment to student success. The funds, aimed at bolstering student support services, are to directly enhance the Division of Student Belonging and Success, as reported by CSU's official news release. This particular division at CSU is dedicated to aiding students in navigating challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
"Our core philosophy is to meet students where they are and to help each individual student progress toward their academic goals," Dr. Tachelle Banks, Vice President of Student Belonging and Success, told the university's news team. Banks asserts that the generous contributions will provide "comprehensive support to ensure students' success and completion of their credential and degree programs by offering a high-quality student experience at CSU," as mentioned by the Cleveland State University
The recent philanthropic efforts include targeted support for various student groups and initiatives. Particularly noteworthy is the assistance for students previously in foster care, donors have established a long-term funding stream to support CSU efforts in facilitating these students' academic achievements. Other notable contributions include the Gund Foundation's donation, which is intended to serve students from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Learning Community, and the Leonard Kreiger Fund of the Cleveland Foundation's gift, which bolsters the Unified Academic Coaching program for students requiring services from CSU’s Office of Disability and Testing Services.
CSU President Dr. Laura Bloomberg expressed gratitude for the community's support. "Each of these generous gifts is an investment in our students and in the future of Cleveland," Bloomberg said in a statement obtained by CSU's publication. The president also highlighted the George Garretson Wade Charitable Trust's support for low-income student programs and the Reinberger Foundation's backing of the Lift Up Vikes resource center and food pantry.
