Last night, Columbus lit up with the spirit of the holidays in a display of solidarity and joy, as Operation Santa Sleigh 2025 unfolded at the Nationwide Children's Hospital. The annual festivity saw the Violet Township Fire Department chipping in, prominently featuring Fire Fighter Paramedics Thurman Rohrbaugh and Jimmy Barber – the latter accompanied by his daughter, Maci – rolling in aboard one of the reserve engines. According to a recent social media post by the Violet Township Fire Department, this spectacle was buoyed by hundreds of emergency vehicles from across Central Ohio joining to light up the faces of the hospitalized children with seasonal mirth.
Not just the night before Christmas was brightened, the outreach of firefighters Rohrbaugh and Barber extends deep into the community year-round. Driving one of the reserve engines, Jimmy’s daughter was seated alongside him and Rohrbaugh, as they led a cascade of lights and cheer at the hospital. Together, they also lead the charge in the Violet Township Fire Fighters Holiday Toy Drive, a statement of dedication to the well-being of the young ones in Pickerington and Fairfield County.
While Santa Claus's sleigh is traditionally drawn by reindeer, in Central Ohio, the convoy of emergency vehicles – adorned with festive decorations and packed with gifts – served as his chariots. It’s not just about the celebration, but also recognition of the selfless acts that underpin the event. The Violet Township Fire Department's admiration for the committed firefighters, evident as they salute "FF/Paramedics Barber and Rohrbaugh for volunteering their time each year," stood as an important reminder of the quiet heroes who fuel seasonal festivities and the year-long drive to make a difference in the lives of children across Central Ohio.
