A Columbus man, Austen A. Medek, 39, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Michaela D. Medek, 41, following her death in September, as reported by multiple local news outlets.
Authorities responded to a call at their Englecrest Drive residence in the early morning of September 10, where Michaela was found with critical injuries and a hammer nearby, according to ABC 6, despite emergency medical efforts and transport to an OhioHealth facility, she succumbed to her injuries four days later, the nature of her wounds led to suspicion as they were not consistent with a fall and an autopsy concluded the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
The Columbus Police Department's SWAT Team arrested Medek without incident, and he remains at Franklin County Jail with a court appearance scheduled, noted NBC4.
Medek had claimed his wife fell and was found unconscious by him, performing chest compressions until police arrived. The Fairfield County Coroner's Office later ruled the death a homicide, with Franklin County Municipal Court documents referencing witness statements and evidence pointing to Austen Medek being the suspect, 10TV reported.
