A staff member at Cudahy High School has been charged with sexual assault of a student, with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child levied against him. Demetrian Carr, a 28-year-old paraprofessional who assisted intellectually disabled students, has been implicated in a series of events dating back to 2023, when the accuser was a 15-year-old freshman. CBS58 reported that the criminal complaint was filed following a report from the student to school officials on December 9.

The Cudahy Police Department arrested Carr on the same day the allegations surfaced, confirming that the reported assaults did not occur on school premises. Contrary to the nurturing environment schools strive to create, these incidents highlight a breach of trust and the vulnerability of students under the care of educators. The School District of Cudahy, emphasizing student safety as their highest priority, placed Carr on leave. In a distressing abuse of technology intended for connection and community building, Spectrum News 1 disclosed statements from the complaint detailing how Carr contacted the victim via Snapchat, presenting himself as her cousin, and initiating conversations of a flirtatious nature.

Further complicating his relationship with the student, Carr is said to have driven her to different locations in Milwaukee County where the alleged sexual encounters took place. Locations like Wilson Park and near the airport have been mentioned as the settings for these incidents. Carr, during a police interview, reversed his initial denial, admitting to meeting the student at least once, as WTMJ revealed. This admission came after the student, motivated by concern for her peers, reported the incidents hoping to protect other students who might not be able to advocate for themselves.

Carr could face serious punishment if convicted. The School District of Cudahy said he could receive up to 80 years in prison and fines of up to $200,000. He is scheduled to return to court for a bail hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 17. A $50,000 cash bond was set at his first court appearance, showing how serious the charges are. Cudahy Police epartment are asking anyone with information or who may have been harmed by Carr to contact them as the investigation continues, as per WTMJ.
