DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Parks and Recreation are inviting applications for the Rec for All Community Grants, aimed at expanding youth programs for ages 6-18, with a new focus on youths 10-13 during the summer. Mayor Bowser said, "We know there are people and organizations in our community with great ideas for how to engage our kids and teens — and we want to support them," according to the Office of the Mayor.
Since 2023, the initiative has awarded over $9 million, reaching nearly 35,000 young residents. Grants range from $5,000 Support Grants to $75,000 Programming Grants, with new Extended Summer Programming Grants of up to $30,000 to support four weeks of enrichment in arts, technology, physical activity, and community engagement, as reported by the Office of the Mayor.
This year, $1.7 million is available through Rec for All Grants for nonprofits and community organizations that work with youth. "With Rec for All Grants, we are doubling down on our promise to make recreation accessible and enriching for every young person in DC," DPR Director Thennie Freeman said. DPR is holding pre-application meetings on Friday. The deadline to submit applications is December 19. Proposals can be submitted through the Rec for All portal or the DPR email, as stated by the Office of the Mayor.
