The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northeast and north central Colorado, drawing concern for gusty conditions and critical fire weather across the Front Range and adjacent plains throughout the evening. As reported on the National Weather Service, the worst of these conditions is expected to impact the Boulder and Jefferson County foothills during the afternoon hours.
Subsequently, gusty winds are forecasted to hit the Denver metro area later this evening, extending into the night. There's additional worry for the mountain regions where, according to the National Weather Service, light to moderate snow will develop during the early overnight hours and continue into Saturday. Travel is expected to be difficult, especially through the northern mountains, where snow and strong winds will likely hinder transportation.
Looking ahead, the NWS anticipates that snow will persist in the mountain areas on Saturday with additional accumulations. Although the gusty winds should lose some of their punch throughout the day. On the plains, colder temperatures are on the horizon with predicted highs shifting down to the 40s and 50s.
Ahead into next week, the Denver area is set to experience a warm, dry spell. Despite the calm, periods of gusty winds are expected to roll through, again raising concerns for potential fire hazards in the Front Range and plains regions. Spotter activation is not on the NWS radar at the moment; however, they have expressed appreciation for reports of strong wind gusts from locals.
