The folks in Denver are looking at a mixed bag of weather conditions, starting off with a bit of rain and snow in the early hours today, and then facing a slight chance of more of the same after 1 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are going to peak near 47 degrees with a brisk wind coming from the southwest, shifting northwest in the afternoon, and gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Don’t expect much snow to stick around, though, if any decides to grace the ground at all.
Tonight, the skies will clear up with temperatures dipping to about 23 degrees, and the wind settling down to a more subdued 7 to 10 mph, becoming southwest after midnight. Come Sunday, Denver residents can bask in the sunshine with highs creeping back up near 45, despite a gentle west-southwest wind introducing some modest gusts of up to 15 mph, which could make that sunshine deceptive for those not layered up.
The weather outlook through next week promises a rise in mercury levels, with Denver on track to see partly sunny skies and highs of 58 by Tuesday, inching further upward to 60 come Wednesday. Nightfall will bring clouds and slight chances of rain, but overall, it’s expected to be clear sailing for city dwellers, while those hitting mountain passes should prepare for less forgiving travel conditions.
The NWS's hazardous weather outlook warns of "scattered mountain snow showers" that could make for slick travel across the high mountain passes this afternoon. The snow should taper off this evening, but another round will lay it on thick overnight into Saturday. Those planning a mountain escape should anticipate "very difficult" travel due to heavy snow and blowing snow, with the potential for road closures. The high country’s snowy situation should see some improvement by Saturday night; nevertheless, light snow could linger into Sunday morning, leading to continued poor road conditions.
