Detroit rapper Casada Sorrell, who performs under the name Sada Baby, is scheduled to stand trial in Macomb County Circuit Court on felony drug charges. The 33-year-old waived his preliminary examination at a recent court hearing, allowing the case to proceed to the circuit court stage.
According to ClickOnDetroit, Sorrell was arrested during a January traffic stop in Sterling Heights after police identified an outstanding warrant. Officers reported finding a bag of pills in his vehicle that allegedly contained acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride. Oxycodone hydrochloride is classified as a Schedule 2 controlled substance, and authorities stated Sorrell did not have a valid prescription. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance under 25 grams, an offense that carries a possible sentence of up to four years in prison.
Court records also indicate that Sorrell has been designated as a third-time habitual offender, a status that could lead to enhanced sentencing if he is convicted. As reported by The Detroit News, the case advanced following a probable cause conference held last Thursday, after which no arraignment date was scheduled.
In a statement, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido addressed the impact of illegal narcotics on the community. "Illicit narcotics pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our community," Lucido told MLive.
Sorrell's music profile, with nearly a million monthly listeners and hits like Whole Lotta Choppas contributing to his streaming numbers, highlights his prominence in the Detroit hip-hop scene while he faces criminal charges. These legal proceedings occur alongside his ongoing career in the music industry.
