A tragic blaze on the west side of Detroit this morning claimed the lives of three individuals and injured two others, authorities have confirmed. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the fire ignited at a residence near 7 Mile and Woodward just after 6 a.m., resulting in two fatalities within the home and a third en route to the hospital. The Detroit Fire Department noted that one victim is in critical condition while another is anticipated to recover.
According to updates from CBS News Detroit, the conflagration occurred along Wildemere Street, prompting the closure of Seven Mile Road at Wildemere due to the emergency response, firefighters were on scene with several vehicles, and two individuals were discovered deceased at the scene while a third, evacuated from the premises, succumbed to their injuries during transportation to the hospital; one other person managed to escape on their own and was hospitalized, and yet another was rescued in critical condition while two dogs also survived the devastating event.
Further details were provided by WXYZ, which revealed the fire's outbreak in the 19000 block of Wildemere, where firefighters' efforts to rescue victims were hampered by a cluttered environment as explained by Deputy Chief Lorenzo Robertson, who stated, "It becomes challenging and it's something we're trained to do, obstacles are obstacles, we can get around them for the most part, sometimes it just slows us down." Robertson elaborated that despite such obstacles, time remains a critical factor. Tragically, among the hospitalized were a teenage girl and an elderly woman from inside the home, with the teen passing away during transport, and an adult male who was outside when the fire began is expected to make a full recovery.
Neighbors expressed shock as the serene morning unfolded into chaos; a neighbor who spoke on condition of anonymity to WXYZ recounted the swift and frantic rescue efforts, "When I came outside, it was chaos, I thought it was a car accident, but when i came out, it ended up being a fire...(I saw) people running, and bringing people out," the neighborhood will undoubtedly feel the echoes of this tragedy for time to come and presently the cause of the fire is under active investigation with details pending.
