A tragic incident occurred on I-94 near Waukesha on Monday, as a driver died following a collision with a snowplow truck. According to TMJ4, the accident, involving a Waukesha County snowplow and an SUV, happened around 9:30 a.m., which led to the closure of westbound Interstate 94 at Springdale Road for several hours. Witnesses reported that the snowplow was operating in the emergency lane prior to the crash, with the highway coming to a standstill.
Witnesses and drivers in the eastbound lanes rushed to the SUV driver's aid after the vehicle started to smoke post-impact. Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital. The snowplow driver, however, was reported to be unharmed. Due to the severe accident, westbound traffic was diverted at Highway 18 in Moreland, causing considerable congestion while the authorities managed the scene, as reported by TMJ4.
WISN reported that the snowplow had its warning lights activated during the time of the accident. "The plow operator was not injured and attempted to aid the other driver until first responders arrived," Allison Bussler, Waukesha County Public Works Director, stated. The cleanup and investigation by Wisconsin State Patrol led to the re-opening of the westbound lanes shortly after 1 p.m.
Further details on the crash's circumstances were shared by CBS58, stating that the driver of the SUV rear-ended the snowplow. The incident sparked a broad response from the local authorities, as they performed an examination to understand the dynamics of the accident. While the investigation is ongoing, the ordeal sheds light on the perils that can accompany winter road conditions and the operations of service vehicles such as snowplows.
