A driver was injured on I-95 in South Philadelphia following a shooting incident, according to Pennsylvania State Police. As reported by 6ABC, the driver was shot in the leg while traveling on the interstate near the Walt Whitman Bridge, at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Despite the injury, the victim managed to exit the highway and reached the Live! Casino parking lot, where the driver called 911 seeking help.
The investigation into the shooting led police to shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 for over an hour, a closure that extended from Christopher Columbus Boulevard to the vicinity of the Walt Whitman Bridge. As mentioned by CBS News, the shutdown facilitated a coordinated search for evidence by state police alongside PennDOT and Philadelphia police, causing significant backups as traffic was rerouted around the active investigation scene.
Following the incident, the injured party was transported to Jefferson Hospital and reported in stable condition. Meanwhile, NBC Philadelphia states that as of now, no arrests have been made, and the motives behind the gunfire remain undetermined. The identity of the man who was shot has not yet been released.
Authorities are urging anyone who might have witnessed the occasion or have information relevant to the shooting incident to come forward. The police hope that tips from the public can bring forth valuable insights into the cause and perpetrator of the unexpected violence that interrupted the usual flow of the expressway, in the search for evidence by the authorities, with assistance from road surveillance footage.
