An attempted break-in in Ann Arbor has taken a violent turn, with a family dog shot and killed yesterday. The incident reportedly happened around 4 a.m. on Weldon Boulevard, as stated by ClickOnDetroit. The police were summoned after a homeowner confronted a person trying to break into a vehicle. The confrontation led to the family dog, named Miley, escaping from the house and being fatally shot by the suspect, who then fled the scene. FOX 2 Detroit later described the suspect as an adult male wearing all black, including a black face covering.

According to Ann Arbor Police Chief Andre Anderson, the situation posed severe risks to community safety. Dressed entirely in black, the suspect escaped after firing multiple shots, striking another residence in the process, Anderson revealed in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. While the manhunt included K9 and drone support, the perpetrator remains at large. The police encourage those with any information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

One of the stray bullets from the shooting hit a nearby house on Waverly, where homeowner Glenn Kime described the sound as "like a bunch of lumber being dropped." Kime explained to WXYZ, “It didn't sound to my sleeping self like a gunshot," and that the bullet passed close to where his wife was sleeping. The Ann Arbor Police indicated to Kime that at least two people were suspected of breaking into cars in the vicinity.
