The Calgary Flames earned a 6-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights last Saturday at the Scotiabank Saddledome, ending Vegas's eight-game point streak and improving their record to 15-17-4. Mikael Backlund led the Flames with two goals and an assist, while Devin Cooley stopped 34 shots, and MacKenzie Weegar reached 200 career NHL assists.
Despite the loss, Vegas saw contributions from Mark Stone with a goal and an assist, though injuries to Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore left their defense exposed. After the game, Backlund said, "I thought we had a really good start and then we stuck with it all night," while Jeremy Lauzon added, "They wanted it a little bit more than we wanted it," according to NHL.
The Golden Knights lost 6-3 to the Flames in Calgary, falling behind 5-1 before scoring two goals in the third period. Coach Bruce Cassidy said, "What you’ve seen out of this team is poor starts and great finishes all year," and said the team needs to start games better, as reported by NHL. Goalie Akira Schmid stopped 20 of 25 shots. Forward Smith said, "I think we weren’t playing as a group of five," referring to the team’s disjointed play, as per Knights On Ice. Vegas will face the Oilers next and plans to focus on simpler puck management.
