A splash of color has recently transformed a 500-foot concrete wall along Miller Road into a beacon of community pride in Garland, thanks to artist Eliana Davila and a host of volunteers. The mural, part of the Office of Neighborhood Vitality's "Where the Heart Is" program, was designed by Davila and segmented into 32 pieces that allowed residents to leave their mark. As reported by the City of Garland, this undertaking not only brightened the daily commute for about 12,000 motorists but also strengthened the unity within the Quail Creek neighborhood.

While unexpected rain threatened to delay the community's endeavors, the resilient residents quickly organized an alternative painting session yesterday. This swift adjustment culminated in an impressive 100 volunteers gathering, including students from the Garland ISD Alternative Education Center. "The City reached out to me with a special opportunity and I was so excited," Eliana Davila, who took the lead on this project and is a Mesquite resident, told the City of Garland. Her enthusiasm was shared by many, including her mother and grandmother, who humorously noted, "It's not elderly abuse if she wants to be here", as they contributed to the mural.

Quail Creek is bound by several local thoroughfares and is characterized by its 500 single-family homes, a magnet school, and accessible parkland. The "Where the Heart Is" program aligns Garland's Office of Neighborhood Vitality with one neighborhood annually to foster investment and encourage a collaborative spirit. Through this initiative, residents brainstorm, connect resources, and work with various city departments, nonprofits, and businesses to invigorate both the physical and social fabric of their community.
