An otherwise routine weeknight run to Boca Park turned chaotic Thursday evening when a shooting in the shopping center’s parking lot left one person injured, according to Las Vegas police.
Officers already working in the area found an individual suffering from a gunshot wound in the lot and called in medical personnel, who treated the person at the scene. Investigators quickly taped off a portion of the parking lot, combing through evidence and looking for anyone who might have seen what happened.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police told KTNV the gunfire broke out in the 700 block of South Rampart Boulevard while officers were conducting a follow-up related to a wanted suspect. According to the station, officers heard a single gunshot and then located the wounded person, with medical crews already on hand to step in.
8 News Now reported the shot rang out shortly after 5:30 p.m. Streets near the Boca Park complex were temporarily shut down and then reopened once officers determined the surrounding area was clear, though the main parking lot stayed blocked off so detectives could process the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Detectives remained in the lot into the evening, gathering shell casings or other physical evidence and talking with potential witnesses, KTNV reports. As of the latest updates, police have not announced any arrests and have not released a suspect description.
What Locals Should Know
Boca Park, a popular strip of shops and restaurants on South Rampart, typically draws a steady crowd around dinnertime, and the police response briefly restricted access to several businesses, according to the shopping center’s website. Officials say the case remains active and that more details will be released as the investigation moves forward.
