H-Town Frankie, the Houston creator who made a name for himself with choreographed holiday light shows, has lit up social feeds again. His latest front-yard spectacle, synced tight to hip-hop, blew up online this week, turning his house into a must-see viral holiday stop within hours of posting.

According to KVUE, the man behind the lights is Frankie To-ong, who posts under the name H-Town Frankie. The station reports that the video showcases his display perfectly choreographed to Houston-flavored rap and R&B, all filmed in his front yard. To-ong has long leaned on nontraditional music to program his intricate light sequences.

FOX 26 Houston reports the latest post has racked up roughly 40 million views. To-ong told the station that some of his shows use about 16,000 pixels and can take eight to ten hours to program for a single three-minute song. He broadcasts the music over a short-range radio frequency for people who pull up to watch, and now keeps his home’s exact location under wraps after earlier viral waves brought bigger crowds than he wanted.

From House To Discovery Green

To move the holiday spectacle beyond his own block, To-ong teamed up with Discovery Green for a larger walk-through experience called H-Town Holiday Lights presented by PNC, which runs through Jan. 4 along the park’s Brown Promenade. As laid out on the Discovery Green event page and in a recent feature on the Discovery Green show, the installation includes an automated segment where the lights sync to music during nightly hours.

Why The Shows Stick

Local coverage says the secret sauce is the mix of holiday nostalgia, Houston hip-hop and razor-sharp timing that turns the displays into a kind of hometown ritual, the Chron reports. The Chronicle also notes that To-ong has been sequencing lights since 2012 and has put on charity displays for groups including Texas Children’s, which helped grow his following well before this week’s viral clip.

How To Watch

To-ong mostly lets viewers experience the shows online rather than drawing uncontrolled crowds to his block. His newest videos appear on Instagram and TikTok under @htown_frankie. For those who want to see the magic in person, Discovery Green’s site has the latest schedule and ticket details for the park installation.
