In a turn of events rooted in tensions within Henderson's city leadership, Councilwoman Monica Larson has been stripped of her endorsement by the Henderson Police Supervisors' Association (HPSA), a decision made public in statements released December 12th, according to both News 3 LV and KTNV Channel 13. The HPSA's action comes after Larson's altercation with a police sergeant was captured on body camera in June, citing that "no police officer or supervisor should ever be subjected to verbal abuse while they are performing their lawful duties, and such conduct is particularly egregious when it is perpetrated by an elected official."
Another layer to the controversy takes form in Larson's recent conflict with Councilmember Carrie Cox, who was indicted for allegedly recording Larson without consent, an incident that is part of a broader alloy of issues which seem to interlace with the HPSA's decision despite Larson's assertion of their move being politically motivated, as she pointed to the timeline during an interview saying "This happened June 28, Why would you call December 11 if this was an issue?" KTNV Channel 13 reported that Larson also mentioned their apparent lack of conversation prior to the endorsement withdrawal.
Amidst the ongoing drama, Larson has defended her actions, involving the confrontation with the Henderson officer after a frightening incident at her neighbor's home, noting her role as an elected official who was concerned for her community's safety. "What the hell? You said nothing had happened, and this man comes to her door with a knife and allegedly says he's going back to get a gun, and you say nothing happened? Have you apprehended this individual? Do we have to lock the community down because people are up milling around now? Is there a threat? Do you know what this officer said to me? By simply asking questions: It's none of your business. I said: Don't you ever speak to me in that manner again and most certainly is my business," Larson told News 3.
As for the claims surrounding Cox, Larson has not shied away from detailing the tumultuous relationship, from Cox's first day in the office trying to influence Larson's vote to including a falsified allegation of infidelity against the mayor within her complaints; these facets of contention layer the cake of complexity for Henderson's political discourse as the LVMPD investigators have also found probable cause over allegations that Cox and her husband ran an unlicensed day care service from their home, another conversation piece that has woven into the fabric of current council conflicts, Larson according to News 3 pointed to these issues as part of the reason behind the council's decision to censure Cox.
