A late-night chase on San Antonio's West Side ended with a crash, an arrest and a stash of drugs and guns that has Bexar County deputies talking.
Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office say they arrested a man after a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision, then followed up with a search warrant at a home where they uncovered what they describe as a sizable haul: roughly 40 ounces of methamphetamine and 17 firearms. The suspect is now behind bars and facing multiple drug and weapons-related charges.
According to a Facebook post by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, deputies first tried to pull over a vehicle driven by Mikal Mireles near U.S. Highway 90 and Hunt Lane. Instead of stopping, Mireles allegedly took off, triggering a pursuit. The chase came to an abrupt end at State Highway 151 and Hunt Lane when his truck crashed into another vehicle.
Deputies say Mireles jumped out of the truck and tried to run, but they caught up with him and took him into custody without further incident. He was later transported to the Bexar County Jail, according to the sheriff's account.
What deputies recovered
Investigators then shifted to a home on the 5600 block of Butch Canyon, where they executed a search warrant tied to the case. Inside the residence, deputies say they found roughly 32 ounces of methamphetamine, with another eight ounces located in the vehicle, bringing the total seizure to about 40 ounces.
The search also turned up 17 firearms, a mix that authorities say included four confirmed stolen guns, several ghost guns, a rifle suppressor and multiple Glock pistol switches. Deputies report they also collected digital scales and narcotics packaging materials, evidence they say points to drug distribution rather than personal use.
Charges and legal exposure
The sheriff's post states that Mireles has been charged with evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 200 grams. Additional firearm-related charges are expected, according to the agency.
Deputies note that among the weapons were stolen firearms and items they describe as consistent with weapons modification, and that detectives are continuing to sort through how each piece of evidence fits into the broader case.
Investigation continues
The sheriff's office is framing the bust as part of a larger, ongoing effort to disrupt narcotics trafficking and tamp down violent crime in Bexar County. Investigators say they will keep building the case and present their findings to prosecutors as the work continues, adding that they are not releasing further details while the investigation remains active.
