Hawai‘i Governor Josh Green is preparing to send the Supplemental Budget for Fiscal Year 2027 to the legislature, proposing $10.58 billion in general funds and $903 million in G.O. Bonds. The plan focuses on affordable housing, healthcare, education, climate resiliency, mental health with $8 million for State Hospital psychiatric beds, and $13.4 million to maintain SNAP benefits, according to the Office of the Governor.
The budget also allocates $8 million to expand kauhale programs for homelessness relief and $50 million in G.O. Bonds to improve infrastructure at the West Hawai‘i Medical Office. $30 million in general funds will be matched with federal money for Medicaid technology upgrades to ensure continued affordable healthcare, as reported by the Office of the Governor.
Governor Green plans to introduce a Green Fee to fund environmental programs, hazard resilience, and tourism projects in Hawai‘i. The exact details will be shared during the Legislative session. He seeks approval from a committee representing the local community. Green said, "This budget continues the progress we have made together," and added, "With the Legislature’s partnership, we have already achieved major investments for our state. This proposal builds on that momentum and ensures Hawai‘i remains resilient, prepared and full of opportunity for our people," as stated by the Office of the Governor.
