Tragedy struck twice on Houston's roads this week, as two separate incidents claimed the lives of a bicyclist and a motorcyclist. According to KHOU, an unidentified man in his 40s was riding a bicycle westbound along Market Street just after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday when he was struck by an SUV. The driver, who had the green light and did not notice the bicyclist until it was too late, remained at the scene and is working with the Houston Police Department during their investigation.
Similarly, on the previous Sunday around 9 p.m., a 24-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his bike in the 6000 block of Woodway Drive and collided with a tree, as reported by ABC13. Traveling at a high speed before the crash, he died at the scene, police said, with no other vehicles being involved in the accident.
Video evidence obtained by the Houston Police suggests that in the Market Street crash, the bicyclist was apparently caught in the SUV's blind spot. The man, pronounced dead on the scene, has not yet been publicly identified pending notification of next of kin.
Sgt. Mike Barrow with HPD, describing the second incident involving the motorcycle, said that the 24-year-old victim was "driving at a high speed" when he lost control of his bike, according to an interview obtained by ABC13. The identity of this individual also remains undisclosed as the investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.
