The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will give $30.3 million to support Texas students in 2026. The money will go to college scholarships, junior show awards, grants for nonprofits, graduate assistantships, and a new vocational scholarship for students pursuing trade careers in 68 counties.
The details were first reported by Houston Chronicle, which described the increase as the largest year-over-year jump in more than a decade. The move builds on last year’s record commitment and reflects several program expansions planned for 2026.
In a press release, Rodeo Houston confirmed a total of $30,353,380 and laid out the organization’s priorities for the coming season. “This milestone moment of reaching $30 million in a single year highlights the Rodeo’s unwavering dedication to Texas youth and education,” Rodeo CEO Chris Boleman said in the release.
What the money covers
According to Houston Chronicle, the funds break down to about $15,126,000 in scholarships, $11,273,500 to junior show exhibitors, $3,430,880 in educational program grants and $523,000 for graduate assistantships. Nine new 501(c)(3) grant recipients were added for 2026, bringing the Rodeo’s roster of grantee partners to 82.
New vocational push and bigger payouts
Rodeo officials say the new Area Go Texan Vocational Scholarship will award $6,000 to one student from each of the show’s 68 Area Go Texan counties to help cover tuition, tools or equipment. The program also adds $500,000 in vocational awards to 10 schools, giving career and technical education a noticeable bump. The release notes that guaranteed auction premiums for Texas 4-H and FFA exhibitors now range from $2,600 to $85,000, which is the first increase for champion payouts since 2002.
Why this matters locally
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s ability to hit these numbers is tied to its auctions, livestock and art sales and donations. Last year’s run generated record auction totals and a roughly $28 million education commitment, as per Houston Public Media. That fundraising muscle is what allows thousands of Texas students and junior exhibitors to receive tuition support and research stipends each year.
Scholarship applications are open through February 2, 2026, and funds will be awarded in summer 2026, giving students and county committees time to map out the next academic year. For students, volunteers and exhibitors, the new commitment cements the rodeo’s status as one of Texas’ largest annual scholarship providers.
