Carroll County saw a series of unfortunate events unfold amidst a wintry spell as icy conditions proved to be a peril to motorists and travelers alike. In a reported incident by WMAR-2 News, multiple vehicles collided on MD-140 at Englar Road, sending four individuals to the hospital with injuries of unknown conditions. Maryland State Police, responding to the chaos, hinted at icy roads playing a contributing factor to the crash, forcing the closure of westbound MD-140 at the Englar Road junction.
The treacherous conditions stretched beyond the roads to the sky, where the weather wreaked havoc on air travel. An astounding number of flights at BWI Airport were subjected to delays or cancellations, with more than 150 flights delayed and nearly 100 flights cancelled, as confirmed by a report from CBS News Baltimore. The situation left travelers in limbo, with cases such as Zack Feltz, who lamented over his grounded plans: "We tried to head out to the Ravens game tomorrow, but the flight got cancelled."
While the roadways became a tapestry of minor and major accidents across the county, it highlighted the dangers that lay in wait on untreated surfaces during such frigid times. The Maryland State Police emphasized the impact of the freezing rain and sleet, particularly in northern Carroll and the surrounding counties.
