The Jacksonville community is preparing for educational developments as Team Duval begins construction on two new elementary schools, set to open in August 2027. Groundbreaking for Pickett Elementary and Hogan–Spring Glen Elementary is scheduled for January 2026, with the schools designed to provide updated learning environments for local students.
Duval County Public Schools reports that the $73 million project aims to create modern educational spaces while uniting local communities. Pickett Elementary, which closed at the end of the 2024–25 school year, will be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art facility combining students from the former Pickett, Reynolds Lane, and S.A. Hull elementary schools. Demolition of the old Pickett site is planned for early to mid-January 2026, with other buildings to be cleared following the consolidation.
Similarly, Hogan–Spring Glen Elementary is set for reconstruction, with demolition of the current building expected to begin in the same period. Students will attend nearby district schools during the transition. The new facility is planned to serve students from the existing Hogan–Spring Glen school, as well as from Love Grove and Englewood elementary schools. An Advisory Committee Engagement process is scheduled for January to gather community input.
Spring Park Elementary is also scheduled to open in 2027, though demolition and construction dates have not yet been determined. The new school will serve students from the current Spring Park Elementary, as well as rezoned students from Love Grove and Englewood.
