Kailua-Kona police have arrested Andrew Green after a series of violent incidents earlier this week, including a hotel robbery and an assault on a security guard at a shopping center. In the first incident, which occurred shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a robbery report at a hotel on the 75-100 block of Sarona Road. The suspect, later identified as Green, a 40-year-old male, is said to have brandished a pipe, threatened the hotel's night shift auditor, and proceeded to steal the auditor's backpack, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
During the robbery, Green allegedly jumped over the counter and swung the pipe while declaring, "I am god and I can do or take whatever I want," as reported by the Hawaii Police Department. The 67-year-old auditor avoided being hit, but the situation escalated as Green took his backpack and fled on foot. Despite immediate efforts by patrol units, Green evaded initial capture. Surveillance footage assisted officers with the suspect's identification.
The second incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. the same day, where Green confronted a 53-year-old security guard at a shopping center located at 74-5500 block of Palani Road. Upon being told that the restaurant he was seated at was closed and that he had to leave, Green launched an attack on the security guard, who sustained injuries to his left neck area, lower jaw, and left forearm after Green punched him and wielded the broken-off rain guard as a stabbing tool.
The police later apprehended Green near the 75-900 block of Henry Street, where he was arrested for multiple offenses. These included assault in the third degree, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle in the first degree, criminal property damage in the fourth degree, robbery in the first degree, and terroristic threatening in the first degree. Theft in the second degree charges were also added after Green was positively connected to the earlier robbery incident. The victim's stolen backpack was eventually found on Ali'I Drive near the Kailua Pier on Wednesday. Detective from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section have been tasked with continuing the investigation, with bail set at a total of $66,100.00.
As more details emerge, authorities urge anyone with additional information regarding these cases to contact Lieutenant Michael Hardie with the Area II Criminal Investigation Section or call the police department’s non-emergency number.
