An Arizona couple who operated a medical clinic business in Lake Havasu City have pleaded guilty to an array of charges including conspiracy to commit fraud and violations of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Mary Blakley, aged 76, along with Fred Blakley, 61, admitted to deceptive practices involving "full body scans" which they falsely claimed could diagnose, treat, and cure serious diseases such as cancer.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the couple was arrested earlier this year and charged by a superseding indictment, alongside their associate Janmarie Lanzo, 66. While Mary Blakley portrayed herself as "Doctor Mary," Fred Blakley also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon, after investigators found an arsenal of over 30 firearms and 30,000 rounds of ammunition in a garage he used. Lanzo had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and defraud the FDA.

The Blakleys reportedly charged clients about $300 for ultrasound scans falsely marketed as innovative “smart chip technology.” Court documents state they also sold supplements and veterinary products as medical treatments, using coded language and misleading titles to evade detection and appear legitimate, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Mary Blakley falsely claimed she held a Ph.D. from Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet. To conceal their activities, the Blakleys labeled their operation as research, kept no records, and operated through a private or religious organization that required clients to sign membership or confidentiality agreements.

Mary Blakley faces up to 25 years in prison, while Fred Blakley could receive up to 40 years due to the additional weapons charge. Janmarie Lanzo, who awaits sentencing in March, faces up to five years. The case was investigated by the FBI and the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations, with sentencing for the Blakleys scheduled for April.
