Las Vegas and surrounding areas are expecting a heat wave this week, with high pressure causing above-normal temperatures from Wednesday through Friday. Gusty northerly winds of 25–35 mph are forecast for the Colorado River Valley, including Laughlin, Bullhead City, and Needles, creating 1–2 ft waves on Lake Mohave, according to the National Weather Service.
For aviation, winds at Harry Reid are expected to stay light around 6 kt, with mostly VFR conditions and a few high clouds near 25,000 ft. Gusts of 20–25 kt may appear near IFP due to the breezy conditions in the Colorado River Valley, as stated by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service reports that several locations may approach daily temperature records. Las Vegas is forecasted to reach highs within 3 degrees of old records, and Death Valley could challenge its 1914 warm minimum record. Maximum and warm minimum records are at risk in the region. Spotters are encouraged to report significant weather events, and residents are advised to stay hydrated and monitor for heat stress.
