A hiker's serene ascent up Lone Mountain took a treacherous turn Saturday afternoon when a fall left him with a broken leg and unable to walk. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR) detailed the harrowing experience in a social media post, recounting how their personnel, aboard AIR1, launched into action to retrieve the injured individual. LVMPDSAR's statement outlined the incident that occurred around 1 pm and necessitated a helicopter evacuation due to the dangerous trail conditions.
Las Vegas Fire Department (LVFD) first responders reached the hiker on foot but determined a litter descent was too risky. AIR1 was then called to insert SAR members SR7 and SR9 to the summit. The hiker received pain medication and treatment before being hoisted to safety and transferred to a ground ambulance.
The LVMPDSAR unit reported that Lone Mountain sees several rescue operations each year for injured hikers, stuck climbers, and occasionally lost individuals. The mountain, located near residential areas and bordering the 215 freeway, attracts many visitors daily.
The LVMPDSAR highlighted the teamwork with LVFD during the rescue, noting that swift patient care helped prepare the hiker for extraction. The incident, filed under reference LLV251200022394, involved a coordinated response to ensure the hiker’s safe recovery.
