Las Vegas will see “warmer than normal temperatures” through on Friday as high pressure settles over the western United States. Conditions may approach daily records, and breezy northerly winds along the lower Colorado River Valley could create small waves near Davis Dam, according to the National Weather Service.

For travelers and pilots, the National Weather Service notes that “VFR conditions with clear skies will prevail,” with winds generally light. Most of the region will follow “typical diurnal directional patterns,” though the Lower Colorado River Valley may experience occasional gusts.

A heatwave is expected this week, and places like Las Vegas, Needles, and Death Valley may reach or pass their usual temperature records for this time of year. On Thursday, the forecast low is 50 degrees, and Needles may reach 78 degrees, which could break its 1958 record. The National Weather Service says no precipitation is expected as a weak trough moves through, but more high clouds may help lower temperatures a little. A light dusting of snow is possible early next week in the higher Sierra areas of northern Inyo County. The National Weather Service asks spotters to “report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures.”
