Two teenagers involved in the murder of retired Las Vegas police chief Andreas Probst were sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Jesus Ayala, 20, received 20 years to life, and Jzamir Keys, 18, received 18 years to life. The crime spree, documented on social media, devastated Probst’s family.

In August 2023, the two teenagers used a stolen car to run down 64-year-old Probst while he rode his bicycle, recording and sharing the attack. At sentencing, the Clark County District Court noted the severity of their actions. Nevada law allows parole eligibility after 20 years since they were juveniles. Probst’s family expressed their devastation, with his son reflecting on the loss of his father.

The defendants declined to speak at sentencing, though Ayala's attorney claimed they never intended to kill anyone. Crystal Probst, the late chief's widow, disagreed: 'They made a choice and that choice destroyed my family,' she told KTNV. Probst’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Ayala and Keys and is pursuing a claim against Hyundai, alleging a defect in the car used in the crime.

David Westbrook, Ayala’s attorney, said the teens 'didn't understand the gravity of what they were doing,' according to News 3 LV. Clark County DA Steve Wolfson stressed the importance of accountability: 'This sentencing reflects the seriousness of this crime and the value of human life.' Both received credit for roughly two years and three months already served in custody.
