Ringing in the season of giving, Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore and city leaders are prepping to make some noise for a good cause. The Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge is back, and Lewisville is rolling up its sleeves to come out on top for another year. The bell-ringing bonanza is slated for Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., where Mayor Gilmore and his team will take their post outside Sam's Club at 751 W. Main Street.
Pitched as a playful rivalry among mayors, Gilmore has earlier thrown down the gauntlet to fellow Denton County mayors, encouraging them to join the charitable fray. According to the City of Lewisville, he's aiming high with a fundraising goal of $2,500. For those inclined to chip in without bracing the chill, online donations are being accepted at the Salvation Army Texas website.
Make no mistake, though; these Red Kettles are more than just decorative holiday fare. The funds collected are a lifeline for the Salvation Army's slate of community services throughout the year. As it stands, the Red Kettle Campaign is the most substantial contributor to the organization's annual operating budget.
Services fueled by these donations range broadly, from food pantry access to employment support to emergency response. As the bells jingle, each dropped coin and bill is threaded in the safety net for countless individuals seeking assistance. So, as Mayor Gilmore stands, bell in hand, with an eye on a $2,500 prize, one can't help but remember that every cent funneled into the Red Kettles weaves directly into the fabric of support for services we all hope to never need, but are indisputably crucial for the ones among us facing hardships in these wintry times.
