The Lisbon Avenue reconstruction saga continues, and the latest developments bring a mix of traffic changes and construction milestones. Alderman Lamont Westmoreland remains upbeat about the status of the project, noting that it's still chugging along according to plan and is set to kick into high-gear when the spring of 2026 comes around, according to the City of Milwaukee.
Recent updates have brought westbound Lisbon Avenue from 86th Street to 100th Street back into play as of November 26. This reopening, while a relief to many local drivers, is not yet the full picture. Eastbound lanes are expected to welcome cars back by mid-December, assisted by the near-completion of permeable paver installations, weather permitting. However, there's a snag coming up with the removal of trees marking the start for phases 3 and 4 shortly, and with it, more traffic reshuffling, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.
With winter on the way, residents should prepare for sewer work planned for February and March. This will close eastbound traffic from 76th Street to Burleigh for about two weeks. Although it may be inconvenient, the work is part of finishing the area’s improvements, including planting trees, laying remaining sod, and adding final pavement markings in spring 2026, as per the City of Milwaukee.
"We are nearing the finish line, and I want to thank everyone for their continued cooperation." Residents and curious observers can keep a finger on the pulse of the project's progress by visiting the City of Milwaukee dedicated website, which has grabbed more than 4,000 pageviews from over 2,500 visitors thus far. The Lisbon Avenue rebuild, according to Westmoreland is "going great with only minimal delays," and is shaping up to match the strength and modernity that the community deserves.
